Wonderful Thung Nham bird sanctuary

It is 12 km from Ninh Binh city (Ninh Binh province) to the East, Thung Nham bird sanctuary is centrally located in the eco-tourism complex of Trang An, near famous tourist place Tam Coc – Bich Dong. From Bich Dong temple, travel about 4km, we will reach Thung Nham which is the land of countless birds.

Thung Nham is significant for its natural bird sanctuary and amazing tourist places including Vai Gioi (beseeching the god), Tien Ca (the fish women), Thuy Cung (heaven palace), Ba Co (three girls), Buddhist, moving banyan tree, love valley…Our first destination should be Vai Gioi cave which is situated on the top of mountain. We will need to challenge 400 stone steps before reaching the gate of cave. The cave is about 5000m2 with three layers of stunning stalactites which is considered as “earth, hell and paradise”. On the top of the mountain, we will have a wonderful panoramic views of villages, beautiful rice fields which make the scenery more stunning.

The bird sanctuary is the most beautiful at the sunset when the stockings are back to their net. Also, the sunshine is more mild. Stop on the road to enjoy the fresh air in the beautifully natural scenery.

Leave Vai Gioi cave, the boat will take us to the bird sanctuary. The sanctuary covers an area of over 300 ha which is the home of over 40,000 birds from 46 species. At this park, you can see many type of birds such as, stocks, herons, eagles, teals, magpie robins, Chinese starlings…In particular, if lucky, we can see grey crowned cranes which weight from 1.2 kg to 1.8 kg.

This land is endowed with wonderful things which is like a mythical story. There are beautiful birds on the sky and soft and charming river beneath. The boat takes us to the natural cave with 500m long which is locally named as Hang But (Buddhist cave). The cave has a marvelous stalactite system which is 70 m wide, and 30 m high. The cave is dark, but thanks to the light system, the cave looks more splendid with interesting stalactite’s shapes. Inside the cave, there is a stone which looks like a Buddhist next to the underground river.

At night, Thung Nham has its own beauty which we cannot find elsewhere. Go along the mild slop in the valley under the dim light bulbs, Thung Nham seems to be strangely romantic. There are 4 seasons in a day here – spring, summer, fall and winter although it is not as clear as that in Sapa or Dalat, but this is a great leisure place for those who want to relax and stay away from the noisy and bustling places.

Besides the natural beauty, the locals also operate many interesting tourist products involving their farming activities including, becoming a real farmer to plant and harvest a lush garden in 80,000 m2. Here, tourists can enjoy tropical delicious fruits including, mangos, litchis, custard apple, guavas…
